Five ‘dry days’ lined up in Delhi

Delhi's excise department has declared five dry days for liquor sales: May 1, May 27, June 26, August 15, and September 9, due to various festivals.

The Delhi government’s excise department has announced five “dry days” over the coming months on the occasions of Buddha Purnima, Eid al-Adha, Muharram, Independence Day, and Janmashtami.

On these days, the sale of liquor will be prohibited across the city (HT)

According to an order issued under Rule 52 of the Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, the designated dry days are May 1 (Buddha Purnima), May 27 (Id-ul-Zuha), June 26 (Muharram), August 15 (Independence Day), and September 9 (Janmashtami).

On these days, the sale of liquor will be prohibited across the city. However, the restriction will not apply to the service of alcohol to residents staying in hotels that hold L-15 and L-15F licenses, which permit service of Indian and foreign liquor to residents in their rooms.

The order states that all license holders must prominently display the dry day notice at their establishments.
