:A 50-year-old man was shot and injured by two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle in Shahdara on Thursday night, police said.

The victim, identified as Jogender Rathore, also known as Billa, was rushed to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment, police said. They added that they received a PCR call at 10.31pm from the victim’s wife, Nisha, who informed them that her husband had been shot and was being taken for treatment. Rathore, a resident of Balbir Nagar, had sustained three bullet wounds to his back.

Investigators said preliminary inquiries suggest that two men approached on a motorcycle and opened fire before speeding away. “Prima facie, the incident appears to be linked to an old rivalry, as indicated by the victim,” an officer aware of the matter said.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered at Shahdara police station. Police teams are scanning CCTV footage from the area and speaking to local residents to identify the attackers.

Further investigation is underway, they said.
