New Delhi:The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notices to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the Delhi Pollution Control Committee and district magistrate concerned, after a petition claimed that a seven-storey building was constructed by encroaching upon the Yamuna floodplain area.

The petition, submitted by Rohit Tyagi, a Wazirabad village resident, in August last year, alleged that the land fell within a green belt and ‘O’ zone, where construction is prohibited under the Delhi Master Plan.
It alleged that the basement level to the 7th floor of the building was constructed by encroaching upon the floodplain area, declared as a green belt area on property in New Aruna Nagar in Majnu Ka Tila.
“The allegation of construction on the floodplain zone of Yamuna raises substantial issues relating to compliance with environmental norms,” said a bench headed by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, in an order dated February 5.
The bench asked the concerned agencies to share a report on the matter.
“The district magistrate will disclose the details of the person undertaking the alleged construction,” the bench had said.
