Three killed in accident on Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway in Nuh
The 52 labourers, who worked in a brick kiln in Hansi in Hisar, were returning to their home town in Uttar Pradesh when the accident occurred
Three people, including two children, were killed, and seven injured when a speeding truck rammed a truck carrying gas cylinders, which in turn crashed into a stationary canter truck transporting 52 labourers and their children on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway near Khera Khalilpur Tuesday morning.
According to the police, the 52 labourers, who worked in a brick kiln in Hansi in Hisar, were returning to their home town in Banda in Uttar Pradesh when the accident occurred.
Kamlesh Kumar, 48, a resident of Banda in Uttar Pradesh, whose wife and children died in the accident, said they had stopped for tea at a hotel when the accident happened. His wife worked with him in the brick kiln in Hansi’s Kharbala village.
“Our canter was parked on the roadside, and behind it was a truck loaded with gas cylinders. When the women and children began to board, a speeding truck rammed into the gas cylinder truck, and in the impact, it crashed into our parked truck. My wife and two children died on the spot, and seven other people standing nearby were severely injured,” he said.
Police identified the deceased as Anita Devi, 38, Komal, 16 and Khushi, 9.
According to police, the LPG cylinder truck driver was also injured and is still in the hospital; he will be arrested once he is discharged.
Kumar said all the labourers and their families decided to visit their home town because the brick kiln had closed for monsoon. “We hired a canter and began our journey at 11pm from Hansi,” he said.
According to the police, they received a call from a passerby about the accident, after which a team from Rojka Meo police station arrived on the scene and took the injured to hospital, where doctors declared three people dead and referred the others to Nalhar medical college for treatment.
On Tuesday, a first information report was filed against the truck driver under sections 279 (rash driving), 283 (obstruction in a public way), and 304 A (death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code at Rojka Meo police station.
Tarun Kumar, station house officer of Rojka Meo police station, said the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their family members after an autopsy on Wednesday.
