Police said the incident took place on April 19 when some students were driving rashly on the road outside the university gate. A PCR van nearby tried to stop the car but failed.

The victim, Aryan Sharma, who is a first year LLB student in the university, was nearby when the suspects raced away in the car.

“I informed police about the car. The students in the car abused me, then followed and assaulted me,” Sharma, a native of Ranchi in Jharkhand, said.

Victim’s father Harendra Kumar said that the suspects got irked with his son as he had spoken to police.

“When my son reached his PG, a group of a few students and security personnel carrying iron rods and sticks entered his room and brutally assaulted him. They threatened his life and left him in a pool of blood,” he said.

Dr Vikas Madhukar, Pro vice-chancellor Amity University, Haryana said, “A fight had occurred outside campus between few students of university and locals on April 19. Subsequently the local village boys entered the private PG premises outside the university in nearby Pachgaon village, and beat up two law students living in the PG,” he said.

Madhukar said ,”It came to our notice that one of the two students who had sustained injuries inside the PG was admitted in the ICU with a head injury. The Dean of Students Welfare Maj Gen GS Bal immediately rushed to Artemis hospital to assist the parents in every possible way. He came to know about the involvement of a private security guard of the university who is a local resident, and the said guard was immediately removed from his services by the private security agency. All necessary support has been extended to the parents and students.”
