Cash stolen from car service centre in Sec 34, cops file case

Unidentified suspects stole ?91,928 cash from the workshop of an authorized car dealer in Gurugram's Sector 34, after breaking open a small safety locker. CCTV cameras were switched off every night. An FIR has been registered against the suspects under Section 380 and 457 of the Indian Penal Code.

Gurugram: Unidentified suspects were booked for allegedly stealing cash from the workshop of an authorised car dealer in Sector 34 on Thursday, police said.

Police said that the theft came to light when a security guard found the cashier room’s door lock broken at about 8.18am on Thursday.

Investigators said dealership officials found that a small safety locker was broken in the room to gain access to an iron chest where the cash was kept.

As per police, the suspects, who may have gained entry from wide ventilators, had dragged the iron chest at least 100 feet away from the spot and later broke it open to gain access to ₹91,928 kept inside it.

A senior police officer said that when investigators started scanning CCTV camera footage, they were surprised to find that none of them were functional. “They quizzed the firm’s human resource manager and came to know that the main switch of the CCTV cameras was switched off every night,” he said.

An FIR was registered against unidentified suspects under Section 380 (theft from dwelling house) and 457 (lurking house trespass by night) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Gurugram Sadar police station on Thursday night, said police.
