35 new mother & child wings to come up in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW To reduce maternal and child mortality, the state government will start 35 new maternal and child health (MCH) wings in Uttar Pradesh.
“Each of the MCH wings will have 100 beds and 1750 employees will be recruited for these new health facilities. Women and children will get medical care here,” said deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak in a press statement on Tuesday.
The staff, including doctors and para medics, will be deployed on contractual basis. About 55 lakh children are born in the state every year.
“Such an arrangement will ensure that pregnant women get medical help near their homes on time and are not required to travel to a higher centre. The work load on women’s hospitals will also be reduced,” said Dr Amita Shukla, senior gynaecologist, SC Trivedi Trust Hospital.
The staff members to be recruited will include 105 gynaecologists, 105 paediatricians, 105 anaesthetists, 35 pathologists, 35 radiologists, 140 nursing staff, 945 neonatology nursing staff, 210 lab technicians and 70 OT technicians. Ward boys and women helpers will also be posted.
“The MCH wing will be a 24-hour facility that will cater to high-risk pregnancy as well,” said Pathak who is also the state’s health minister.
There will be a new-born care corner and facility of X-ray and ultrasound will also be provided.
