Initial investigations have revealed that the trader-- Mahendra Maurya alias Pushkar-- had dispute with some persons. His family too has raised suspicion on some people following which efforts were on arrest them, they added.

Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Chowk, IP Singh said Maurya, who runs a cloth shop in Para, was intercepted by two men at around 10.30 pm near Bhuwar crossing.

“The assailants, who were apparently waiting for the trader, walked up to him and opened fire. Maurya suffered two bullet wounds on chest and stomach and succumbed to his injuries during treatment at trauma centre of King George Medical University (KGMU),” the ACP said.

The officer said the victim’s father Roshal Lal Maurya has lodged an FIR under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 302 for murder against unidentified assailants in this connection.

He said the preliminary investigation suggested the assailants fired three bullets— one bullet hit the car’s wind screen, two hit the victim causing him fatal injuries.

Another police official said initially believed that there were two assailants but three suspects were spotted when the police scanned video footages of CCTVs installed near the crime spot. He said the assailants had parked their four-wheeler at some distance from the spot and fled after committing the crime.

On Tuesday, the victim’s kin blocked the ring road by keeping the body and demanded immediate arrest of the assailants and ex gratia for the family. The blockade was removed when the ACP Chowk assured them of action against the perpetrators.
