In an order issued by UPPCL chairman Ranvir Prasad on September 30, distribution divisions have been asked to create separate WhatsApp groups for consumers with a connected load of 250 kW and above in rural areas and 500 kW and above in urban areas.

The groups will provide consumers with information on power supply disruptions and the progress and expected duration of restoration. They will also enable consumers to lodge complaints regarding supply interruptions, with instructions for their expeditious disposal.

The order says officials up to the level of executive engineer, superintending engineer and chief engineer, including the additional chief engineer, executive engineer and sub-divisional officers concerned, should be part of the groups.

Senior distribution officials have also been directed to continuously monitor the progress of complaints and their resolution. The discoms concerned have been asked to ensure compliance and submit an action-taken report within a week.
