The additional district judge, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) court in the state capital, on Tuesday awarded death sentence to a rape and murder convict after almost eight years of the incident.

Additional district Judge, POCSO court, Arvind Mishra awarded death sentence to Asif Khan in the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl. The incident took place on April 5, 2014 and a First Information Report in connection with the crime was lodged at Hasanganj police station the next day (April 6, 2014).
The accused was charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 302 (murder) , 376 (rape) and under sections of the POCSO Act. According to public prosecutor Abhishek Upadhyay, Asif Khan had lured the child on the pretext of offering her an ice cream. Thereafter, he took the girl to his residence where he outraged her modesty and murdered her, said Upadhyay.
Earlier on September 30, 2021, POCSO court judge Arvind Mishra had awarded death sentence to one Prem Chand for rape and murder of a girl. In another case in January 2020, the POCSO court had awarded death penalty to one Arafat alias Bablu for rape and murder of a girl.
