MUMBAI: A 24-year-old man died after the Honda City he was driving crashed into an autorickshaw in Malwani in Malad (west) on Friday evening.
Malwani police said the accident took place at around 6:40pm on JJ Road. On reaching the spot, they found both the driver of the car and the auto driver injured. Police were able to extract the driver from the car with the help of fire fighters before it caught fire. “After getting him out, the vehicle suddenly caught fire, which was doused by 7.15 pm,” said a police officer with the Malwani police.
The driver was seriously injured and identified as Abdul Mateen from his driver’s licence, which was found in his pocket. He was declared dead on arrival at the BDBA Hospital, where the auto driver is being treated for his injuries.
Police have registered a case of accidental death. “We will need to determine who was at fault and the sequence of events leading to the crash before registering and FIR,” said a police officer from the Malwani police station.
