Devendra Fadnavis asked to appear before Mumbai Police in phone tapping case
Devendra Fadnavis, the leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, said he would appear before police on Sunday and record his statement.
Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said he had received a notice from the Mumbai Police in a phone tapping case and transfer of IPS officers been asked to appear before the force at the BKC Cyber Police Station at 11am a day later. The former chief minister said he would appear before police at the given date and record his statement.

“The Mumbai Police has sent me a notice under Section 160 of the CrPC, asking me to appear before them at BKC Cyber Police Station at 11am tomorrow. I will go there and record my statement,” he said.
“As the LoP, I have the privilege to not reveal where I got the information from, but I was a home minister at one point and I understand my responsibility. If an offence was falsely registered and if the city police wants some help, I will respond,” he was further quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Fadnavis said it was because the Uddhav Thackeray-led government in the state suppressed the matter for six months and protected the accused, he had to expose the same.
“Had the government caught the scamsters and those who are being probed by the CBI on time and not brushed the matter under the carpet for six months, then I need not have exposed it. The government wants to protect them and somebody who exposed this is being called to the police station,” Fadnavis said.
