Teenager arrested for robbing 5-year-old girl’s earring, injuring her
As Anjan was climbing the stairs, she saw Ankit Singh, who stayed in a neighbouring building, crossing her on his way down.
Mumbai: A 19-year-old man was arrested on Monday evening after he pulled the earrings of his five-year-old neighbour, injuring the girl in the process.

According to the police, the girl, identified as Roli Arjun Khushwah, had left her house in a building at Babrekar Nagar in Kandivali west at 7.30 pm on Monday along with her aunt Anjan (20) to go to a nearby shop when the incident happened.
Arjun (25), Roli’s father, said that as they were coming down the stairs from the third floor, it started raining. Anjan left Roli on the second floor and went up to fetch an umbrella.
As Anjan was climbing the stairs, she saw Ankit Singh, who stayed in a neighbouring building, crossing her on his way down.
“When Anjan was about to enter the house, she heard a scream from Roli. She then rushed to Roli and saw her clutching her ear and crying inconsolably. When she lifted her hand, Anjan saw it bleeding and her mushroom-shaped earring missing from her right ear,” said Arjun, who works in a steel factory.
As Anjan realised that Singh had robbed the earring, she raised an alarm and alerted a man who was entering the building. As the man heard Anjan’s cries, he understood that Singh was the robber and intercepted him on the ground floor during his attempt to flee.
Other building residents, who had heard the woman shout for help, came out of their house and cornered Singh. “Sensing that the people might bash him up, Singh hid the earring worth ₹1,000 in his underpants,” said a police officer from Charkop police station.
At 7.40 pm, the Charkop police were alerted about the robbery after which they reached the spot and searched Singh but could not find the earring.
The police arrested Singh for robbery under section 392 of the Indian Penal Code.
“My daughter suffered a cut on her ear and is in a state of shock. We had seen Singh around but did not know he was a habitual robber,” said Arjun.
