The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has planned to complete work on a pending 60-metre-wide service lane parallel to the Yamuna Expressway, connecting Greater Noida with Yamuna city, authority officials said on Tuesday.

Out of the total 40km road, nearly 35 km has been completed, while work on the remaining stretch is pending due to land acquisition issues, officials said. (HT Archive)

Out of the total 40km road, nearly 35 km has been completed, while work on the remaining stretch is pending due to land acquisition issues, officials said, adding that the authority aims to complete the work by March next year.

Once completed, the service road will provide an alternative route to Yamuna Expressway for commuters travelling to the Noida airport and Jewar.

“The road project was delayed due to land issues at some locations and we have acquired the land in Dayanatpur village and construction has started there. We will soon acquire land in Sabota village too. This is the last hurdle in the project. We aim to complete it by March next year,” said Shailendra Bhatia, Yeida’s additional chief executive officer.

However, with operations starting at the Noida airport last month, commuter traffic is expected to rise on Yamuna Expressway. Hence, the service lane on the left side of the Yamuna Expressway is being planned, officials aware of the development added.

The service lanes connect Pari Chowk with Yamuna City and key institutions and areas such as GIMS, Gautam Buddha University, Galgotias University, Dankaur, Yeida Sectors 18, 20 and 21, and Film City on the way.

Since the road is incomplete, commuters have to take narrow internal roads to reach the airport.

Further, while taking the Yamuna Expressway to travel between Greater Noida and Jewar, farmers from nearby villages often object to paying the toll.
