One killed, five injured in armed robbery in Prayagraj
An FIR is being lodged and multiple police teams have been constituted to identify and nab the culprits, police officials said.
Some unidentified armed miscreants killed a private security guard and injured five others during a robbery at a garment and jewellery shop at Hetapatti village under the Tharwai police station of the trans-Ganga area of the district late Sunday night. The injured people were admitted to SRN Hospital for treatment.

Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj Ramit Sharma, DCP (trans-Ganga) Abhishek Bharti and other senior officials reached the spot and called the field forensic unit and dog squad to the spot for investigations.

A resident of Hetapatti Bazar, Ashok Kesarwani runs a garment and jewellery shop and lives in a house behind the market. Kesarwani informed police that he came outside the house when he heard some commotion in his shop at around 1 am. However, around half a dozen miscreants overpowered him as soon as he came out of the house. They assaulted him on his head with a pistol butt and looted cash and jewellery worth several lakhs from his shop.
The robbers then entered the house of Ashok’s brother Santosh. They assaulted Santosh and his wife and looted cash and jewellery.
Then the robbers came out of the market where security guard Ramkripal spotted them. They then assaulted Ramkripal multiple times on his head with a heavy object which resulted in his death. Ramkripal’s wife Panchu Devi and granddaughter Anchal rushed to the spot on hearing his cries, but they were also beaten and injured by miscreants.
The villagers rushed to the spot upon hearing cries, but the robbers had, however, fled the scene. It was later found that they also broke the locks of a shutter of a shop of one Rambabu Soni in the same area.
Tharwai police also reached the scene on receiving information at around 2.30 am and admitted the injured to SRN hospital.
Commissioner of Police Ramit Sharma said police received information about the incident from Santosh Kesarwani. The injured persons have been admitted to hospital for treatment while the body of the security guard has been sent for autopsy. An FIR is being registered on the complaint of Santosh Kesarwani and multiple police teams are carrying out raids to identify and nab suspects, he added.
