A 32-year-old autorickshaw driver was found dead inside his parked vehicle in the Akurdi area of Pimpri Chinchwad on Saturday morning. Police suspect he died by suicide.

The deceased, identified as Pramod Salunkhe, was a resident of Ambethan in Chakan. Police said the incident is believed to have occurred around midnight, and his body was found inside the autorickshaw the following morning.

Mahesh Bansode, senior police inspector at Nigdi police station, said, “On Saturday morning, we found a man was in a hanging condition inside his auto rickshaw. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide, but we are exploring all angles related to the case.”

Preliminary investigation suggests Salunkhe allegedly used his shirt to hang himself inside the autorickshaw. After being alerted, Nigdi police reached the spot, conducted a panchnama and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and are examining CCTV footage from the area. The exact reason behind the suspected suicide is yet to be ascertained, and investigators are questioning family members and acquaintances as part of the probe.
