The 23.3-kilometre elevated metro corridor is implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, led by the Tata Group. The first trial run on the corridor was conducted between Man Depot and SPPU in July 2025, followed by another trial up to Balewadi Sports Complex in August 2025.
During the latest trial run, comprehensive safety and technical assessments were carried out, including checks on track geometry, power supply systems, emergency braking mechanisms, coach stability, and performance on curves.
Yogesh Mhase, commissioner, PMRDA, said, “Construction of station buildings, platforms, entry and exit facilities, and essential services is nearly complete and we plan to open most of the stations for passengers by March 31. More than 10 metro train sets have been received, and 22 rakes will be made available.”
