PUNE A 38-year-old man has been duped for ₹6.3 lakh by callers who promised him a personal loan of ₹3 lakh in 2020.
The man was asked for payments of smaller amounts for reasons like processing fees, bank document processing, the first few instalments of EMI, etc. He realised he was being defrauded after the callers started ignoring his calls. (REPRESENTATIVE PHOTO)
A complaint in the matter was lodged on Saturday by the 38-year-old man residing in Rajendra nagar who works in the private sector, according to the police.
“The victim gave ₹6.36 lakh over the period of nine months to get a loan that was originally promised to be ₹3 lakh. They then promised that he will get an insurance claim, then asked for advance payment of a few EMIs, then also promised to increase the loan amount,” said senior police inspector Sunil Mane of Vishrambaug police station who is investigating the case.
The man was asked for payments of smaller amounts for reasons like processing fees, bank document processing, the first few instalments of EMI, etc. He realised he was being defrauded after the callers started ignoring his calls.
A case under Sections 419, 420, 465, and 468 of the Indian Penal Code along with Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act was registered at Vishrambaug police station.
