Over 79k students secure admissions under RTE quota

Pune: Admissions of 79,660 students under the 25% quota reserved through the Right to Education (RTE) Act have been confirmed across Maharashtra for the academic year 2026-27.

According to the primary education directorate officials, the admissions from the lottery selection list have been finalised till May 11. The next phase of admissions will focus on students on the waiting list, which includes 86,034 applicants. A schedule for this process is expected to be announced shortly.

Authorities received 289,286 applications for 114,826 seats available in 8,701 schools across the state under the RTE quota this year. Through the online lottery system, 105,811 students were initially selected for admission.

Primary education director Sharad Gosavi said on Monday that the admission window for students in the first selection list has been closed and the department will begin the process for waitlisted candidates.

Pune district recorded the highest number of confirmed admissions under the RTE quota with 13,883 students securing seats. Sindhudurg reported the lowest figure at just 126 admissions.

Other districts with admissions include Thane (7,706), Nagpur (4,666), Nashik (3,979), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (3,470), Mumbai (1065), Raigad (3,132), Ahilyanagar (2,818), Kolhapur (2,193) and Buldhana (2,290).
