Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attributed the success of ‘Operation Ganga’ to evacuate citizens stranded in war-torn Ukraine to India’s growing influence in the global arena.
Modi, speaking after inaugurating the golden jubilee celebration of the Symbiosis university and its Arogyam Dham in Pune on Sunday, said while big nations have been facing difficulties, India has brought back students from Ukraine.
“We are evacuating thousands of Indians safely from the war zone through ‘Operation Ganga’. It is due to India’s growing influence that it has brought thousands of students from the war zone of Ukraine back to their motherland. Many big countries are facing difficulties in doing so for their citizens,” Modi said. According to the Centre, India has till Saturday brought back 13,700 citizens from war zone of Ukraine under ‘Operation Ganga’.
The PM underlined the confidence of new India saying country is among the largest economies of the world and maintains the third largest startup ecosystem. “Missions like Startup India, StandUp India, Make in India and Aatmnirbhar Bharat are representing your aspirations. Today’s India is innovating, improving, and influencing the whole world”, he said. The prime minister said that citizens of Pune know very well how India showed its prowess to the world in the context of coronavirus vaccination. Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) has majorly contributed in producing and supplying Covishield vaccine.
Modi said, “India has emerged as a global leader in sectors which were previously considered out of reach. India has become the second largest mobile manufacturer in the world. Seven years ago, there were only two mobile manufacturing companies in India, today more than 200 units are engaged in this work.”

{{/usCountry}}Even in defence, the Prime Minister said, India, which was recognised as the world’s largest importer country, is now becoming a defence exporter. “Today, two major defence corridors are coming up, where the biggest modern weapons will be made to meet the defence needs of the country,” Modi.
Addressing students, Modi said their generation is lucky that it does not have to bear the brunt of a “defensive and dependent psychology”. If the country has seen this change, then the credit goes to the youth of the country, he said.
