Three cops suspended for dereliction of duty in Sadashiv Peth girl attack case
The victim had approached the police chowki, located a stone’s throw from the crime spot, after she was attacked with a machete by the accused
Forty-eight hours after the youths who saved a young woman from her attacker found the Peru Gate Police Chowki empty, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), zone IV, Sandeep Gill has ordered suspension of three policemen for dereliction of duty (negligence).

The victim had approached the police chowki, located a stone’s throw from the crime spot, after she was attacked with a machete by the accused.
The suspension order was issued between Wednesday and Thursday to Sunil Shantharam Tathe, Prashant Prakash Jagdale and Sagar Namdeo Rane posted at Peru Gate Police Chowki that falls under the jurisdiction of Vishrambaug Police.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old college student was attacked with a machete by a 21-year-old youth and the incident was captured live on CCTV camera and went viral on social media.
The police later arrested the accused Shantanu Laxman Jadhav and sent him to five-day police custody.
Residents who caught the assailant and took him to the chowki found it closed.
While eyewitnesses said that policemen arrived at the chowki after thirty minutes, the latter maintained that they reached the spot within 5-7 minutes of receiving the alert.
The daylight crime took place just days after the murder of 26-year-old Darshana Pawar, whose body was found at the foothills of Rajgad Fort on June 18.
Pune rural police later arrested Darshana’s friend Rahul Handore (28) in the case, who had allegedly committed the murder as she had rejected his marriage proposal.
