In a suspected case of suicide, police found a couple and their two-year-old son dead inside a rented out-house of a government quarter in the Harla police station area of Bokaro on Thursday, officials familiar with the matter said.
The bodies of a 37-year-old man, his 33-year-old wife and two-year-old son were recovered from Street-5 in Sector-9, triggering shock and grief across the neighbourhood.
“According to preliminary findings, the family was under severe financial stress due to mounting debt. Investigators suspect that the child was killed first, allegedly by suffocation, following which the couple died by hanging. All three bodies were sent for post-mortem examination,” a senior police official said.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Bokaro City DSP Alok Ranjan said, “The medical board is conducting the post-mortem of the deceased, but all evidence, including ligature marks on the neck and the house being closed from inside, indicates it is a suicide case.”
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased have levelled serious allegations against the landlord, claiming the victim had borrowed money from him and was subjected to harassment over repayment. Police officials said all aspects, including these allegations, are being thoroughly investigated.
