The stand-in skipper hit nine fours and three sixes to top-score as South Africa totaled 209-3. The Proteas went at more than 10 runs an over with Richard Levi (37), Colin Ingram (29) and Albie Morkel (22) all contributing. JP Duminy blasted 23 from seven balls near the end.

Bangladesh could only manage 170-8 in 20 overs to slip to a second successive defeat after having lost to host Zimbabwe in the opening game of the series on Sunday.

Mushfiqur Rahim finished on 50 not out but had little support as South Africa left-arm spinner Robin Peterson and fast bowler Marchant de Lange took two wickets each.
