Australia vs New Zealand Highlights, Cricket World Cup 2023: Australia defeated New Zealand by five runs in ODI 27 of the ongoing 2023 World Cup, in Dharamshala on Saturday. Chasing 389, New Zealand began on a strong note, with openers Devon Conway and Will Young showing good shot selection. Conway and Young eventually departed for 28 and 32 respectively, and then Rachin Ravindra rebuilt for the Black Caps with a century. The all-rounder was dismissed for 116 for 89 balls. With 19 needed in the final, James Neesham tried to win the game for New Zealand, but was dismissed in the second last ball. New Zealand reached 383/9 in 50 overs. For the Aussies, Adam Zampa struck thrice, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins two wickets each.

Meanwhile, an explosive show by Australian batters, in particular Travis Head and David Warner, helped them pile a massive 388 on the board after being invited to bat first by New Zealand. The duo dealt in boundaries from the word go and mustered 118/0 at the end of 1st powerplay. Both the batters also completed their respective half-centuries, with Head taking just 25 balls to reach the milestone. Warner too was not far behind as he took 28 balls to do the same. The pair added 175-run for the opening stand before Glenn Phillips got rid of Warner for 81(65). Shortly after he cleaned up Head for 109(67).

Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh failed to carry forward the momentum, handing New Zealand an opportunity of a late recovery. However, a blitz by Glenn Maxwell once again shifted the momentum towards Australia and thereafter Pat Cummins and Josh Inglish kept hitting boundaries at will. Maxwell fell for 41(24), Inglish scored 38(28), while Cummins hammered 37 in just 14 balls.
