Bangladesh vs Afghanistan highlights, Asia Cup 2023: BAN beat AFG by 89 runs to remain alive in competition

Shakib Al Hasan introduces himself in the attack and he is hit for a boundary by Rahmat Shah. Five runs come from his over as Afghanistan muster 37 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first powerplay.

Another tight over by Shoriful Islam as just one run come from it. 

However, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah combine to hit Hasan Mahmud for a boundary each. Nine runs come from the over. AFG: 32/1 (9 overs)

Rahmat Shah hits Shoriful Islam for a boundary. Easy picking for the batter as Islam delivers an overpitched ball, which is beautifully driven through extra cover for a four. 

Hasan Mahmud is introduced in the next over and words are exchanged between the bowler and Shah after he hits the ball straight at Mahmud, who collects it on his followthrough and throws it back at the batter. Ibrahim Zadran smashes consecutive fours against Taskin Ahmed. Nine runs come from the over as AFG reach 10/1 after 3 overs.

Shoriful Islam shares the new ball with Taskin and he inflicts the first blow. Gurbaz fails to deal with an inswinging ball and is trapped LBW for 1(7). He decides to review the decision but that too doesn't help his case.

Shakib Al Hasan ensures Bangladesh finish strong as 10 runs come in the final over by Karim Janat. Shakib returns unbeaten on 32(18) as Bangladesh post 334/5 in 50 overs.

Shamim Hossain is run-out for 11(6) as 12 runs come in the 49th over bowled by Gulbadin Naib. 

Shakib had earlier hit the pacer for a couple of boundaries in the over. BAN 324-5 (49 overs)

Shakib al Hasan smokes a tossed up delivery by Rashid Khan for a SIX over deep mid-wicket. The ball travels for 89 metre.

A mix-up in the middle between Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim results in a wicket. Mushfiqur Rahim is run-out for 25(15).

Debutant Shamim Hossain arrives in the middle and gets off the mark with a maximum. BAN: 302-4 (47 overs)

A good over by Rashid as no boundary come in it. However, Mushfiqur and Shakib combine and gather eight runs from it. BAN 290-3 (46 overs)

Mushfiqur hits Rashid Khan for a SIX as 11 runs come in his over. 

Shanto is run-out for 104(105) in the next over by Mujeeb, following which Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan joins Mushfiqur in the middle. BAN: 282/3 (45 overs)

Mehidy welcomes Mujeeb with a maximum but leaves the field right after. He's retired hurt for 112(119). 

Mushfiqur Rahim joins Najmul Hossain Shanto in the over.

Meanwhile, Shanto also brings up his ton later in the over, takes 101 balls to complete the milestone. BAN: 262-2 (43 overs)

Najmul Hossain Shanto hits Rashid Khan for a couple of boundaries as Bangladesh cross 250. Shanto is batting on 99(100). BAN: 251/2 (42 overs)

A mix-up between Mehidy and Shanto but no harm done as they complete a single. With that Mehidy also brings up his century, takes 115 balls to reach the milestone. 

Shanto finishes the over by Gulbadin with a boundary, hitting the ball in the gap between long-on and mid-wicket region. BAN 239-2 (41 overs)

A superb over by Karim Janat, who mixes his pace, not allowing the Bangladesh pair to go hard at him. Just three runs come from the over as BAN reach 231/2 (40 overs)

Clever bowling by Gulbadin Naib as he slows down his pace, which is played in the air by Shanto. The ball travels towards Mujeeb placed at long-on but bounces right in front of the fielder running towards the ball. BAN: 228/2 (39 overs)

Mohammad Nabi completes his 10 overs quota. He finishes wicketless and gives away 50 runs. BAN: 222/2 (38 overs)

Mujeeb continues from the other end and he is hit swept for a six by Mehidy, sending the ball over the square leg fence. That also brings up the 150-run stand. BAN: 217/2 (37overs)

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto help Bangladesh breach the 200-run mark inside 35 overs. Mehidy is batting in his 80s, while Shanto is not far behind and is in his 70s. The pair have so far added 139(147) for the third wicket. BAN: 202-2 (35 overs)

Both the Bangladesh batters are now settled in, punishing every loose delivery. While they don't hit Rashid Khan for a boundary and focus in strike rotation, Fazalhaq Farooqi is ripped apart by Najmul Hossain Shanto.

The southpaw hits the pacer for consecutive fours and then flicks him for a six over the square-leg region. 17 runs come from the over. BAN: 194/2 (33 overs)
