Bangladesh vs Afghanistan highlights, Asia Cup 2023: BAN beat AFG by 89 runs to remain alive in competition

Mehidy Hasan gently pokes the ball by Mohammad Nabi extremely fine behind the stumps and it beats the fielder to settle at the boundary ropes.

Najmul Hossain Shanto pokes a ball by Karim Janat through point and sets off for a single, but pulls up something in the process. The batter hobbles before completing the single as the physio rush out to attend the batter. The batter continues after receiving the treatment.

Meanwhile, Mehidy nicely times a good length delivey by Karim towards cover. Rashid stops the ball near the boundary force but feels the pain on his knees, which he endured earlier in the contest. BAN: 155/2 (29 overs)

A good over by Mohammad Nabi as just two singles come in it. BAN: 149-2 (28 overs)

Afghanistan's struggle for wickets continues as the pair of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto add six runs in the last two overs. BAN: 135-2 (26 overs)

Mehidy Hasan Miraz gently guides the ball by Mohammad Nabi towards deep mid-wicket for a single and with that he completes his half-century. Takes 65 deliveries to reach the milestone.

Rashid Khan bowls it short, slightly wide and Mehidy gently cuts the ball, which beats the point fielder and races for a four. Seven runs come in the over. BAN: 123-2 (23 overs)

Mohammad Nabi is welcomes with a six by Mehidy Hasan Miraz as he comes to bowl the 22nd over. The spinner concedes 9 runs in the over. BAN: 116/2 (22 overs)

Rashid keeps things under control in his next over as no boundaries but still a total of six runs come in it.

Nabi then keeps it tight as four singles come in his over. BAN: 103/2 (20 overs)

Shanto hits Mohammad Nabi for a boundary as he connects his sweep perfectly and sends the ball towards backward square-leg fence. BAN 93-2 (18 overs)

Rashid Khan joins the attack and he starts with a maiden over. BAN: 88/2 (17 overs)

Shanto continues to get the boundaries for Bangladesh as he drives a fuller delivery by Gulbadin, which races towards the boundary ropes in mid-off. 

Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi joins the attack, and he starts with a tight over with just two singles coming in it. BAN 88-2 (16 overs)

Afghanistan brings back Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who bowls a tight over. Three singles come in the over as BAN reach 80/2 in 14 overs.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the man in form, has joined Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the middle. He hits Karim Janat for a boundary to get off the mark. 

He then hits Gulbadin Naib for a boundary in the next over. Naib pitches it at good length, which is hit in the air, and the ball rolls towards the long-on fence. He finishes the over with another shot. The ball is pitched full and is driven towards covers for a boundary. BAN: 77/2 (13 overs)

Afghanistan strike in quick succession as Gulbadin Naib joins the party. Towhid Hridoy falls for 2-ball duck after being caught by Ibrahim Zadran at slips.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman comes to bowl the final over of the first powerplay. He is driven for a boundary by Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the second ball. 

He, however, breaks the 60-run opening stand between Miraz and Mohammad Naim in the final delivery of the over. The spinner cleans up Naim for 28(32).

Poor bowling by Fazalhaq Farooqi as he drops it at back of a length with bit of a room to open the arms and Mehidy Hasan Miraz does exactly the same. Connects it well enough to send the ball past the point fielder for a boundary.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz pokes a ball by Mujeeb Ur Rahman behind the stumps and Rashid Khan chases it. The spinner does well and stops it but hurts himself in the process. He seems in a bit of a pain but is back fielding. Meanwhile, just one run come from it.

After scoring at 10 runs per over, the fourth over just results in three singles. Fazalhaq Farooqi then follows it up with a maiden over. BAN: 33/0 (5 overs)

That's a first shot of intent from Naim after a couple of edges beating the fielders. Width on length and the left-hander gets on top of the ball, drives it past cover for a brilliant four. Another good over for Bangladesh

Faaroqi continues and finds a thick outside edge off Naim. But the ball travels past the second slip towards the third man boundary. Unlucky there

Mujeeb ur Rahman takes the ball from the other end. Concedes 8 off his first over which includes another five-wides. Both Afghanistan bowlers losing their line a bit up-front

This one was a lucky four. Poor delivery regardless from Farooqi. Short and outside off, Naim goes for a square cut but the ball hits the toe-end of the bat, and flies past the slip cordon
