There may have been doubts about his red-ball credentials amid his depleting numbers in the longest format, but David Warner is a maverick when it comes to the white-ball formats and there's been no stopping him in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Continuing his sublime form after that stellar knock of 163 runs against Pakistan last week, Warner smashed another sensational century in the tournament, against Netherlands on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, to script two massive World Cup records. After losing opener Mitchell Marsh early in the match, Warner combined with Steve Smith in an impressive fashion to stitch a 132-run stand before finding himself as part of a 88-run partnership alongside Marnus Labuschagne. And it was right after the end of the third-wicket stand, where Warner played a second fiddle to Labuschagne throughout, did the opener notch up the triple-figure mark after lacing 11 boundaries and three sixes.

With the knock of 104 off 93, Warner left behind the legendary Ricky Ponting to now hold the record for most centuries by an Australia in the World Cup. His tally of six, two of which came in this edition of the event, put him at par with Sachin Tendulkar in the all-time list as the duo now stand just one behind India captain Rohit Sharma (7).

The knock also took his run tally in World Cup to 1324 runs as he went past West Indies great Brian Lara (1225) and India opener Rohit (1289) and now stands as the fifth-highest run-getter in the tournament's history. Sachin leads the chart with 2278 runs, followed by Ponting (1743), Kumar Sangakkara (1532) and Virat Kohli (1384).

Warner's stellar century was followed by a blitzkrieg hundred from Glenn Maxwell. Scoring off just 40 balls, the Aussie notched up the record for the fastest hundred ever in a World Cup match, beating South Africa's Aiden Markram, who scored in 49 balls against Sri Lanka earlier in this tournament.

Australia eventually ended with 399 for eight, their second-highest total in a World Cup innings after 417/6 against Afghanistan in Perth in 2015. It is also the third-highest total in this edition of the World Cup after South Africa's 428 for five against Sri Lanka and 399 for seven against England.
