“A fine of Rs 100 was imposed on Wednesday for delay in the registration of the car,” an official in the state Transport
Department said.

Within a week of buying a car, one has to apply for registration. Dhoni has applied for the registration, but the form submitted was incomplete, the official said.

“After the initial fine, if a car-owner is caught driving the four-wheeler without registration, the owner is fined Rs 4,500 under the Motor Vehicle Act,” he said.

Speedster R.P. Singh had accompanied Dhoni when they drove the Rs 1 crore (including import duty) from Lucknow to Ranchi on July 30.

Dhoni and spinner Harbhajan Singh are the only cricketers to own the Hummer H2. The Cricket India captain is out of the town from Tuesday for the Challengers Cup.

This is the second time that Dhoni has been fined. Three years ago, a traffic policeman had fined him for driving a car with tinted windowpanes as it was banned in Ranchi. Dhoni was unaware of the ban.
