Dhoni receives threat letters, Rs 50 lakh demand

Jharkhand police says the Indian cricket captain has been provided maximum security cover following the receipt of a threat letter by his family demanding Rs 50 lakhs, reports A Thakur.

India’s cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was shocked to receive another extortion letter on New Year’s Eve. The letter, from notorious criminal Taslim, threatened to blow up his house at Mecon Colony unless he paid Rs 50 lakh.

The first letter, sent to Dhoni on Monday, had said the money was to be delivered at a furniture shop, Senior Superintendent of Police Sampat Meena told reporters.

The situation turned serious with the arrival of another threat letter on Wednesday.

A team has been formed under Hatia assistant superintendent of police A. Vijyalaxmi to probe the matter.

Inspector general of police S.N. Pradhan said Dhoni has been provided with security at par with Z Category. Provisions had been made to provide additional security, when required, said Pradhan.
