ICC World Cup 2023 qualifiers Highlights: Sri Lanka beat Scotland; Ireland defeat UAE by 138 runs

Paul Stirling's 162 played a pivotal role in Ireland beating UAE by 138 runs. It was an all-round bowling performance from Ireland with four bowlers picking two wickets each in folding UAE for 210 runs.

“All the boys are excited for the next round. These two points were very crucial. The wicket was not easy to bat on compared to the other wickets. Credit to Nissanka and Asalanka. Collapses happen. We play positive cricket. Playing positively and getting out not a problem for us. Theekshana and Hasaranga always do the job for us. DdS and myself are there to bowl for the fifth bowling option. Chameera is also injured.”

Maheesh Theekshana picked three wickets and Hasaranga picked two as Sri Labka bundled Scotland for 163 and script an 82-run win.

Hasaranga dismissed Christopher McBride for 29 off 38 while Shanaka got rid of Michael Leask as Scotland went six down in their chase of 246. They now stand 84/6 in 18 overs.

UAE on the other hand went four down with the dismissal of Ethan DSouza. UAE are 91/4 in 16 overs in their chase of 350.

Scotland in trouble as they lose four wickets with just 60 runs on the board after 12 overs against Sri Lanka. They are chasing 246.

UAE are batting at 70/1 after 10.3 overs against Ireland. They are chasing 350.  

The second innings are underway and Scotland have lost one wicket in the 246 run chase against Sri Lanka. SCO: 31/1 (4.1 overs)

UAE have all the 10 wickets in hand as they chase a gigantic 350 against Ireland. UAE: 23/0 (2.5 overs)

Sri Lanka are all-out for 245 in 49.3 overs.

Ireland scored 349/4 in 50 overs.

Paul Stirling has breached 150 and it shouldn't come as a surprise if he reaches the 200-run mark, a feat which very few players have achieved so far in their career.

In the other match Sri Lanka have breached the 200-run mark but have also lost seven wickets in the process. 

Opener Pathum Nissanka scored 75 off 85 balls, and Charith Asalanka accumulated 63 in 65 deliveries.

In the match between Ireland and UAE, Paul Stirling has put the former in driver's seat. He is inching close to the 150 mark, while his side has already over 240 runs on the board with nine overs and eight wickets in hand.
