IPL 2019: RR vs SRH - Top five player battles to look out for in Jaipur
Here’s a look at the top five player battles to watch out for in the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.Updated: Apr 27, 2019 11:38 IST
Both Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad will begin life without their key overseas players when they face-off in the Indian Premier League in Jaipur on Saturday.
At this stage, Royals are more affected than Sunrisers with the absence of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer, who have left for England to join the World Cup camp.
Sunrisers will surely miss the services of their destructive opener and Englishman Jonny Bairstow, who formed the most potent opening pairing alongside David Warner.
Things will get tougher for both teams after the departure of Australians - Warner and Royals skipper Steve Smith - next week. Sunrisers are placed better than Royals on the points table, having won five out of their 10 games. Royals have only won four of their 11 games but they too remain in the hunt for a play-off spot.
Here’s a look at the top five player battles to watch out for in the match between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Ajinkya Rahane vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Ajinkya Rahane has been in good nick in his recent matches, but he has to be wary of Bhuvneshwar Kumar on Saturday. The opening batsman has been dismissed six times in T20s by the fast bowler and Rahane has batted at a strike-rate of 89.29 against Bhuvneshwar. Rahane may look to play out the speedster’s overs early on in his innings.
Steve Smith vs Rashid Khan
Steve Smith has struggled against Rashid Khan in T20s. The Australian has managed just 14 runs off 19 balls against Rashid and has been dismissed once by the leg-spinner. It will be interesting to see whether Smith takes the attack to Rashid or will he look to cautiously play him out.
David Warner vs Varun Aaron
David Warner and Varun Aaron have had an interesting battle in T20s so far. The opening batsman has scored 37 runs off 28 balls against the fast bowler, but Aaron has managed to pick up Warner’s wicket once. Aaron, who is currently in good form, may knock Warner’s wicket off early on in his innings on Saturday.
Manish Pandey vs Shreyas Gopal
Shreyas Gopal trapped Manish Pandey LBW when the two faced against each other in an IPL match earlier this season. Pandey has batted only two deliveries against the leg-spinner and has managed just one run versus Gopal in T20s. The Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman will look to improve his record against Gopal in their next match.
Vijay Shankar vs Jaydev Unadkat
Vijay Shankar has batted aggressively against Jaydev Unadkat in their short battle in T20s so far. The all-rounder has scored 15 runs off 7 balls against Unadkat, however, the fast bowler has dismissed Shankar once in the shortest format. Can Unadkat pick up Shankar’s wicket once again? We’ll have to wait and see.
