IPL Auction Day 1 Highlights: Rishabh Pant smashed the record for most expensive player in the IPL auction set just minutes earlier by Shreyas Iyer

IPL Auction Day 1 Highlights: Maheesh Theekshana was the first player up for grabs in Set 7, that was for capped spinners, of the IPL Mega Auction on Day 1 and the Sri Lanka spinner found a new home in the Rajasthan Royals. Rahul Chahar was up next and he went to ₹3.2 crore in Sunrisers Hyderabad. Adam Zampa was sold to SRH as well, for ₹2 crore. Wanindu Hasaranga was up next, sold to Rajasthan Royals for ₹5.25 crore. Set 5 of the IPL mega auction, which is for capped wicketkeeper batters, starred with Ishan Kishan emerging as the second-costliest buy at ₹11.25 crore, going to Sunrisers Hyderabad. The set opened with Quinton de Kock to KKR for ₹3.6 crore. Jonny Bairstow went unsold, while Phillip Salt, the England keeper batter, was snapped up by RCB for ₹11.5 crore. KKR added another keeper batter in the form of Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Set 4 sprung a big surprise at the IPL 2025 mega auction with Kolkata Knight Riders splurging a gobsmacking amount of ₹23.75 crore to purchase Venkatesh Iyer. Ravichandran Ashwin reunited with CSK for ₹9.75 crore. Harry Brook, the first pick in Set 3, went to Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore. Devdutt Padikkal went unsold. Aiden Markram was purchased for ₹2 crore by Lucknow Super Giants. Devon Conway and Rahul Tripathi were both purchased by Chennai Super Kings. Rachin Ravindra returns to Chennai Super Kings.

KL Rahul was the last player up for grabs in Marquee set 2, and he is headed to Delhi Capitals for ₹14 crore. Mohammed Siraj was sold to GT for INR 12.25 crore. Yuzvendra Chahal was the most expensive buy in Round 2, going to Punjab Kings for ₹18 crore. Mohammed Shami was the first pick of the second round, and he was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹10 crore. His former GT teammate David Miller was sold to Lucknow Super Giants for ₹7.5 crore. Mohammed Siraj struck some riches too, with Gujarat Titans shelling ₹12.25 crore for the fast bowler. Shami was the first pick in Round 2 and his former GT teammate David Miller came next.

The mega auction was up to a rich start, to put it mildly, as Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer became the two most expensive buys in the history of IPL. Rishabh Pant found a new home at Lucknow Super Giants for a staggering ₹27 crore, while Punjab Kings snapped up Shreyas Iyer for a whopping ₹26.75 crore. Mitchell Starc went to Delhi Capitals for ₹11.75 crore, Jos Buttler to Gujarat Titans for ₹15.75 crore. Arshdeep Singh was retained by Punjab Kings, who used the RTM card to keep him for ₹18 crore.
