IPL 2021 highlights, Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets courtesy fiery fifties by Venkatesh Iyer and Rahul Tripathi. Iyer hit his maiden IPL fifty off just 25 balls as he and Rahul Tripathi brought up KKR's 100 inside 10 overs after Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Shubman Gill. Iyer was dismissed for 53 by Bumrah but Tripathi at the other end brought up his fifty off 29 balls. KKR openers Gill and Venkatesh Iyer had gotten off to a flying start. Earlier, Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya failed to give the big finish to the MI innings as KKR restricted Mumbai Indians to 155/6. Quinton de Kock got to his fifty but was soon dismissed by Prasidh Krishna, who had removed Suryakaumar Yadav cheaply. Sunil Narine broke the opening stand by dismissing Rohit Sharma for 33. Rohit and Quinton de Kock had started the MI innings with a bang as they reached fifty inside the powerplay after Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to bowl first.

    Successive resounding wins for KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders have beaten Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets. They have chased down 156 with 4.5 overs to spare. This is a statement from KKR and quite a big one. They had beaten RCB by 9 wickets with 10 overs to go and today they have made a mockery of the defending champions. The tides are turning in this league.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:53 PM IST

    Bumrah gets his third

OUT! Bumrah gets his third of the night. KKR captain Morgan departs for 7. It was a short one aimed at the body from Bumrah and Morgan played the pull shot but didn't get the timing. His poor form continues but KKR need only 9 runs to win this match.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:48 PM IST

    Morgan joins the party

SIX! It does not matter which batsmen it is, every Kolkata player is hammering the ball out of the turf. Chahar drags his length back and pitches it short, on middle. Eoin Morgan rocks back and pummels it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:44 PM IST

    Tripathi carries on

SIX! Nothing can stop Kolkata from winning. Chahar bowls a loopy ball, on middle. Rahul Tripathi slog-sweeps it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. He is making batting look so easy. Moves onto 61 off just 33.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:40 PM IST

Bumrah strikes, Iyer is out for 53

OUT! Bumrah cleans ups Venkatesh Iyer. But what an innings from the left-hander. He goes for 53 off 30 balls. It was a cutter from Bumrah and Iyer went for a big heave but ended up missing it. KKR 128/2

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:38 PM IST

    What was that from Tripathi?

SIX! What was that from Tripathi? It's that kind of a night for KKR batsmen. Whatever they do, will result in a six or a four. It was premediated from Tripathi, he sat down one knee and wanted to lap it over fine leg but instead got an outside edge and it somehow flew over thirdman for a six. That also brings up Tripathi's fifty off 29 balls.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:33 PM IST

    Fifty for Venkatesh Iyer

Take a bow young man. You have been an absolute revelation so far for KKR.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:30 PM IST

14 runs from the Bumrah over

Even the class of Bumrah is of no use for MI it seems. He goes for 14 in his second over. It's a one-way traffic at the moment and dare we say, we could be in for an early finish here. But we've seen some funny things happen in cricket. So keep your eyes on this match. KKR 111/1 after 10 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:27 PM IST

    100 up for KKR

That was miscued from Tripathi but thankfully for him it lands just short of Adam Milne who did well to go for the catch at the deep cover boundary. 100 up for KKR in 9.3 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:22 PM IST

And the boundaries continue to flow

SIX! There's no stopping the onslaught. There was man back at long on but who cares? Rahul Tripathi dances down the track and Krunal Pandya over long on for a maximum. This is breathtaking stuff from these young batsmen of KKR.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:21 PM IST

    Pure class from Iyer

FOUR! We saw the brute power and timing from Venkatesh Iyer and now it's time to see his delicacy with the bat. Picks up the length early and just taps it fine and away from the backward point fielder to collect another boundary. This is an innings that will earn him many fans. KKR 85/1 after 8 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:15 PM IST

    Iyer goes down town

SIX! Venkatesh Iyer goes down the track and smashed it over deep mid-wicket for another six. Krunal Pandya can't believe it and neither can we. This young man is doing something special for the second match in a row.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:11 PM IST

    End of the powerplay

12 runs from Adam Milne's second over. And that ends the powerplay. No prizes for guessing who is bossing the game right now. It has been KKR al the way. They have reached 63 for 1 at the end of the first six overs and now need only 93 runs off 84 balls at just over a six runs per over.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:07 PM IST

    Brilliant from Rahul Tripathi

FOUR! KKR has been unleashed. It doesn't matter who is the batsmen, they are all gonna just go for it. Milne dugs it in short but Tripathi was sort of expecting it and he moves towards the off side and flicks it over short fine leg for a boundary.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:04 PM IST

    Krunal Pandya starts well

That's a good over from Krunal Pandya. The first over without a boundary in the KKR run chase so far Only 3 runs from it. This is an important period of lay, we all saw what the KKR spinners did for them, can the MI spinners do the same? If they can, we are in for a fascinating contest.

  • Sep 23, 2021 10:01 PM IST

KKR vs MI live score: 4 overs bowled

Some sanity back in the game it seems. But still KKR manage to get 8 runs from Boult's second over. 8 seems a lot less now as we've seen a couple of 15 run overs right at the top. Now it's all about holding their nerves and batting a bit sensibly for KKR but don't think Iyer understands any of it. KKR 48/1 after 4 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:55 PM IST

    Bumrah strikes

OUT! BOWLED! Bumrah puts an end to the carnage. Shubman Gill departs for 13. Just the genius of Bumrah It was a cutter and it just found a way to get the inside edge of Gill's bat and hit the stumps. MI needed this. KKR 40/1 after 3 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:53 PM IST

    Smashed by Iyer

FOUR! Even Bumrah is not spared. Full, in search of a yorker, doesn't get it right and is hammered straight down the ground. This is unreal stuff from the left-hander.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:50 PM IST

    Boundaries flowing

FOUR again! Full and wide from Milne, Iyer went at it with hard hands, got the outside edge and it races away. The third man was inside the circle. 15 runs off the over again. KKR 30/0 after 2 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:48 PM IST

    Venkatesh Iyer, remember the name

SIX! Just a fraction shot from Milne and Venkatesh Iyer very quick to get on to the backfoot. But boy did he get a good connection to that one. It went flat and over the ropes. This is some start by KKR.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:44 PM IST

SIX! Second maximum of the over

This time, it's Iyer, who takes Boult on. ‘International bowler? What’s that?' is what Iyer must be saying. Short ball from Gill but Iyer hooks it thunderously over the ropes. Expensive over first up by MI; great start for KKR.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:42 PM IST

    Boult to Gill: SIX

Shot! Oh, that is an absolute cracker. Boult tries to swing the ball into the right hander but Gill gets his front foot out and whips the ball magnificently for the first six of KKR innings. What timing. Incredible.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:40 PM IST

MI vs KKR, Live: Gill, Iyer to start KKR's chase

Against RCB, KKR's newest opening pair of Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer got off to a brisk start in chase of a modest target of 93. However, against Bumrah, Boult and Milne, Gill and Iyer will be tested. Alright then. Chase of 156 runs… here it begins.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:27 PM IST

What a last over by Ferguson

FOUR! Saurabh Tiwary hits a four off the last ball but it has been a fantastic over from Ferguson. Two wickets (one run out) and only 6 runs from it. KKR would be mighty pleased to restrict Mumbai Indians to 155 for 6 after winning the toss.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:23 PM IST

    Krunal Pandya goes

OUT! Two-in-two for KKR. Ferguson gets Krunal Pandya. No power on that shot. It was back of a length delivery and Pandya gave it his all but couldn't get the timing.  Wickets are tumbling at the end for MI, they are 149/6 with only 3 balls to go

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:21 PM IST

    Pollard is out

OUT! Kieron Pollard is run out for 21. MI 149/5 with only 4 balls to go. KKR are closing it out on the right note, Ferguson just needs to keep his calm.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:19 PM IST

    Last over coming up

Good comeback by Russell after conceding that six off the second ball. Right then MI are 149/4 with only one over to go. How many can they get? Surely they would be eyeing 160.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:16 PM IST

    Krunal Pandya joins the party

SIX! Picked up the slower bouncer well there Krunal Pandya. He can hit them big, make no mistake. KKR would be wrong if they only concentrate on Pollard because time and again Krunal can hit these big shots and hurt any opposition.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:12 PM IST

Pollard is caught bot doesn't matter

It was a free hit. Prasidh Krishna has been lucky twice today.  His free hits have not resulted in boundaries but he needs to be careful. These could potentially change the course of the game.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:09 PM IST

MI vs KKR live: Pollard power

SIX! Brutal power from Pollard. It was slower ball from Krishna. Pollard rocked back, waited for it to arrive and muscled it over deep mid wicket to collect his first six. MI need this, they need to get 160 and Pollard's there man.

  • Sep 23, 2021 09:02 PM IST

MI vs KKR live: Ferguson strikes, Kishan out

OUT! Lockie Ferguson gets Ishan Kishan for 14. It just got big on him. The extra bounce and pace hurried him. It was nowhere near the middle of the bat. Kishan ended up slicing it to Russell, who takes a good catch running in from long on. MI 119/4 after 16.2 overs

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:58 PM IST

    Russell vs Pollard

FOUR! The attempted yorker from Russell goes slightly wrong. Pollard takes it on the half volley and flicks it away towards mid wicket. Lockie Ferguson puts in the dive the is unable to stop the ball from touching the ropes.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:56 PM IST

    Kishan goes big

SIX! Russell drops it short but nowhere near the height he would have liked to achieve and Kishan rocks back and pulls it over square-leg for a maximum. Not happening for Russell tonight.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:52 PM IST

    Krishna gets de Kock

OUT! TAKEN! Prasidh Krishna gets the big wicket! Krishna deceives de Kock by serving it slow and outside off, asking him to hit. Quinton de Kock rocks back and pulls it hard but straight to mid-wicket where the ball sticks in the hands of Sunil Narine. A slight pressure in the dugout of Mumbai. De Kock goes for 55. MI 106/3 after 14.5 overs

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:51 PM IST

Krishna survives the double free hit

A play and miss from de Kock. Praisdh Krishna would breath a sigh of relief. First he overstepped to award a free hit to de Kock and then he bowled a wide But in the end, no harm done.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:41 PM IST

    Fifty for de Kock

A very good innings from Quinton de Kock but he needs to carry on and get a big one.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:34 PM IST

    Prasidh Krishna strikes

OUT! Edged and taken. Suryakumar Yadav the man dismissed. Prasidh Krishna with a brilliant start to his second spell. It was on good length and just moved away. SKY was on the move while playing that uppish drive, got an outside edge and Karthik makes no mistake. MI 89/2, a good period of play for KKR.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:30 PM IST

    Narine is done too

Another good spell comes to an end. Sunil Narine and Chakravarthy have sort of brought KKR back into the contest. Narine finishes with 4 overs 1 for 20. So MI, despite a strong opening partnership are finding it hard to really hit the boundaries.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:26 PM IST

MI vs KKR Live: Chakravarthy bowls out

A very impressive spell from Varun Chakravarthy. Even when Rohit and de Kock were on song, he kept his composure and didn't allow these two stalwarts to get away. Chakravarthy finishes with four overs 22 for none. MI 86/1 after 11 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:22 PM IST

    Stunning over from Narine

How many has he been the crisis man for KKR in the IPL? Narine once again putting his hand up and showing the way for KKR bowlers. Just 3 runs from his over and more importantly, the wicket of Rohit Sharma in it. MI 80/1 after 10 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:18 PM IST

Live MI vs KKR: Narine gets Rohit

OUT! Narine provides the breakthrough for KKR. Rohit goes for 33 off 30. he really had to go after the start they've got but this time doesn't get the desired timing and his holed out at long on. Not the first time Narine has got Rohit out. MI 78/1

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:16 PM IST

MI vs KKR Live: 9 overs bowled

The shackles have been broken. Rohit and de Kock take 14 runs from the first over Andre Russell. If KKR don't get a wicket quickly then this match could runaway very quickly from them.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:12 PM IST

    Welcome Russell!

FOUR! Short and wide from Russell but not that wide to be fair to him. Just enough for de Kock to open his arms and hammer it past the mid off fielder. Russell has been greeted with a solid stroke. What will be his answer?

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:10 PM IST

    KKR clawing their way back

Now Chakravarthy with another tight over, only three runs from it and he almost got the wicket of de Kock. KKR this bowling pair to make inroads into the MI batting line-up.

  • Sep 23, 2021 08:06 PM IST

    Narine bowls a quiet over

That's a good over from Sunil Narine. Straight after the timeout, he puts the brakes on the rampaging MI innings. Only four runs from the over. MI 60/0 after 7 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:59 PM IST

    Fity for Mumbai

SIX again! De Kock has launched into an attack against Krishna. Fifty up for Mumbai Indians in the 6th over. De Kock and Rohit are flying. MI 54/0 after 5.5 overs

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:56 PM IST

    De Kock on song

SIX! Picked up the slower ball early, waits for it and then hits over long on for a beautiful straight six. This is not good for KKR. Their experiment with spin with the ball didn't get them a wicket and now Rohit and de Kock have got their eyes in to go after the seamers.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:53 PM IST

    De Kock goes big

SIX! The sound off de Kock's bat was enough to suggest where that ball was heading - deeeeeep into the stands. Ferguson dropped it short, it was not high enough and de Kock swivled back and pulled it over squareleg. The first six of the match. MI: 40/0 after 5 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:46 PM IST

    Successive boundaries

FOUR - one over mid-off. FOUR again - this time with a slog sweep. Rohit Sharma has had enough of the KKR spinners with the new bal. He has decided to attack Chakravarthy. 4 overs of spin bit too many at the start?

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:44 PM IST

De Kock, Rohit get two overs

They had to do something. The KKR spinners had got them into strangle and so Rohit and de Kock decided to take Narine on and succeeded to be honest. They got a boundary each in the third over. 11 runs off the over. MI 20/0 after 3 overs.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:42 PM IST

    Sunil Narine now

Three overs with the new ball after opting to bowl first and three different spinners used by Eoin Morgan. This is unexpected to say the least, but so far so good for KKR. They have managed to keep Rohit and de Kock quiet.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:39 PM IST

2 overs bowled in MI innings

KKR's twin-spin tactics right at the top of the MI innings has not done too badly. Rana and Chakravarthy have given away only 9 runs in the first two overs of the match. But ideally, KKR would want quick wicket with the new ball.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:32 PM IST

    Rohit off the mark

FOUR! What a start to the MI innings. Class written all over that stroke from Rohit Sharma. If there was any doubts about how Rohit will go against KKR;s surprise move of giving Rana the new ball, here's your answer. A first ball boundary.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:30 PM IST

All set for the match to begin

Right here's a surprise straightaway. Nitish Rana has the new ball in hand for KKR. We all expected Narine or Chakravarthy but Rana's off-spin will be at the beginning for KKR. Rohit on strike for MI

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:27 PM IST

All eyes on Rohit and de Kock

Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock walke out to open the batting for Mumbai Indians. Rohit and de Kock have been solid opening pair for MI and they will have a job to do against the likes of Prasidh Krishna and Lockie Ferguson.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:23 PM IST

Hardik's absence turning out to be a worry

Hardik Pandya not in the Mumbai Indians XI for successive matches. Can't remember the last time when this happened. There no absolute clarity about the extent of Hardik's ‘niggle’ which kept him away from the CSK match and now the KKR match. The longer Hardik stays away from the field, the more worried the Indian think tank will get ahead of the T20 World Cup.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:07 PM IST

One change for MI, KKR play same team

Rohit Sharma takes his position back in the side in place of young Anmolpreet Singh but still no sing of Hardik Pandya.

KKR, on the other hand, have gone in with an unchanged XI.

  • Sep 23, 2021 07:01 PM IST

    Toss update

Kolkata Knight Riders win the toss and opt to bowl first against Mumbai Indians.

The big news is, Rohit Sharma is back as the MI captain.

  • Sep 23, 2021 06:58 PM IST

Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan the master tacticians

The relation between former captain Dinesh Karthik and current captain Eoin Morgan has been one of the most noticeable factors in the KKR dressing room. Apart from being explosive middle-order batsmen, the due have another thing in common and that is their tactical brains. Karthik and Morgan form a strong leadership group for KKR but they will have to perform with the bat to help their side reach new heights.

  • Sep 23, 2021 06:54 PM IST

    Rahul Chahar vs Varun Chakravarthy

Two Indian spinners Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy could well decide the outcome of this KKR vs MI clash. Leg-spinner Chahar, is MI's best spinner and he has proved time and again how useful he can be in the middle overs.

He will have tough competition from KKR's own mystery spinner Chakravarthy. It was Chakravarthy who orchestrated the RCB collapse the other night and if he is on song, the MI line-up can have some difficulties.

MI vs KKR Live score: Pitch Report

It is a new surface. This is an absolute fast bowlers paradise, isn't it not. Tonight it is going to be a battle of spin, fast bowlers do pick up wickets here and that is because it is a bit grassy with a slow tennis ball kind of bounce. Generally spin is very hard to score at and they take 40 percent of the wickets. The breeze, size of the boundary; some of the reasons for spinners being successful. Batters might have a tough time: Danny Morrison and Matthew Hayden with the pitch report.

  • Sep 23, 2021 06:47 PM IST

Ferguson the unsung hero for KKR

Since 2020 Lockie Ferguson has become more consistent in T20s. Since 2020, he has bowled only 5 wicketless innings out of 25 across T20s. In addition, Ferguson has played 17 T20s out of 77 in Asia with 15 wickets at the average of 33.60. Ferguson also has the economy of 5.37 at Abu Dhabi, which is the best among all 45 bowlers who has bowled 10 or more overs at the venue in IPL.

  • Sep 23, 2021 06:42 PM IST

    Rohit in the field

Good news if you are an MI fan. Rohit Sharma is training on the field, warming up and looks like he is completely fit to take the field against KKR today. This can be a huge boost for Mumbai hours before this crucial encounter.

  • Sep 23, 2021 06:29 PM IST

Andre Russell's firpower crucial for KKR

Andre Russell's lusty hitting often overshadows the tremendous work he does for KKR with the ball in hand. Take his yorker to AB de Villiers the other night as an example. Russell has been a stalwart for KKR with both bat and ball. He couldn't fire much with the bat in the first half of this IPL but all that could change pretty quickly.

Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders IPL 2021 Live

Shubman Gill looks in fine touch

Shubman Gill's strike rate was one of the major talking points in first half of IPL 2021 when the young right-hander repeatedly failed to give KKR an explosive start. Things shown signs of improvement as Gill came out all guns blazing in KKR's run-chase against RCB. The way Gill charged down the track to the likes of Kyle Jamieson and Mohammed Siraj, showed that he has come to the UAE with a different mindset. If the right-hander can continue batting in similar fashion against MI and in the remaining matches of KKR, then Eoin Morgan's men will fancy their chances of making it to the playoffs.

IPL 2021 live score: MI new-ball attack the key

MI's new-ball attack comprising Trent Boult, Adam Milne and Jasprit Bumrah is perhaps one of the strongest ones in the IPL along with Delhi Capitals. Boult has got most wickets in the powerplay in the IPL in last two years and he now has his New Zealand teammate Milne by his side, who can pepper the batters with his pace and bounce. There's no respite for the batsmen after Boult and Milne are done as MI then throw the ball to Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently India's best all-format bowler.

  • Sep 23, 2021 06:03 PM IST

Venkatesh Iyer, the star in making for KKR

Opener Venkatesh Iyer had an impressive IPL debut against RCB with his unbeaten 41. But he has been around in the Indian domestic circuit since 2015 and has featured in 39 matches.

Iyer has scored 765 runs from 39 T20s at the average of 38.25 with 2 fifties. But he came into the light after his impressive performance in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021.

What happened in the last MI vs KKR encounter

Andre Russell registered his maiden five-wicket haul in the IPL when these two sides last met in the IPL in Chennai. But KKR fail to chase down the 153-run target as MI leg-spinner Rahul Chahar ran through the Knight top-order. Who will have the last laugh today?

    MI vs KKR: Head-to-head record

Mumbai Indians have the best record against Kolkata Knight Riders. In fact, MI's win percentage of 78.57 is the best by any team against an opponent in the IPL.
