Successive resounding wins for KKR
Kolkata Knight Riders have beaten Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets. They have chased down 156 with 4.5 overs to spare. This is a statement from KKR and quite a big one. They had beaten RCB by 9 wickets with 10 overs to go and today they have made a mockery of the defending champions. The tides are turning in this league.
Bumrah gets his third
OUT! Bumrah gets his third of the night. KKR captain Morgan departs for 7. It was a short one aimed at the body from Bumrah and Morgan played the pull shot but didn't get the timing. His poor form continues but KKR need only 9 runs to win this match.
Morgan joins the party
SIX! It does not matter which batsmen it is, every Kolkata player is hammering the ball out of the turf. Chahar drags his length back and pitches it short, on middle. Eoin Morgan rocks back and pummels it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.
Tripathi carries on
SIX! Nothing can stop Kolkata from winning. Chahar bowls a loopy ball, on middle. Rahul Tripathi slog-sweeps it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. He is making batting look so easy. Moves onto 61 off just 33.
Bumrah strikes, Iyer is out for 53
OUT! Bumrah cleans ups Venkatesh Iyer. But what an innings from the left-hander. He goes for 53 off 30 balls. It was a cutter from Bumrah and Iyer went for a big heave but ended up missing it. KKR 128/2
What was that from Tripathi?
SIX! What was that from Tripathi? It's that kind of a night for KKR batsmen. Whatever they do, will result in a six or a four. It was premediated from Tripathi, he sat down one knee and wanted to lap it over fine leg but instead got an outside edge and it somehow flew over thirdman for a six. That also brings up Tripathi's fifty off 29 balls.
Fifty for Venkatesh Iyer
Take a bow young man. You have been an absolute revelation so far for KKR.
14 runs from the Bumrah over
Even the class of Bumrah is of no use for MI it seems. He goes for 14 in his second over. It's a one-way traffic at the moment and dare we say, we could be in for an early finish here. But we've seen some funny things happen in cricket. So keep your eyes on this match. KKR 111/1 after 10 overs.
100 up for KKR
That was miscued from Tripathi but thankfully for him it lands just short of Adam Milne who did well to go for the catch at the deep cover boundary. 100 up for KKR in 9.3 overs.
And the boundaries continue to flow
SIX! There's no stopping the onslaught. There was man back at long on but who cares? Rahul Tripathi dances down the track and Krunal Pandya over long on for a maximum. This is breathtaking stuff from these young batsmen of KKR.
Pure class from Iyer
FOUR! We saw the brute power and timing from Venkatesh Iyer and now it's time to see his delicacy with the bat. Picks up the length early and just taps it fine and away from the backward point fielder to collect another boundary. This is an innings that will earn him many fans. KKR 85/1 after 8 overs.
Iyer goes down town
SIX! Venkatesh Iyer goes down the track and smashed it over deep mid-wicket for another six. Krunal Pandya can't believe it and neither can we. This young man is doing something special for the second match in a row.
End of the powerplay
12 runs from Adam Milne's second over. And that ends the powerplay. No prizes for guessing who is bossing the game right now. It has been KKR al the way. They have reached 63 for 1 at the end of the first six overs and now need only 93 runs off 84 balls at just over a six runs per over.
Brilliant from Rahul Tripathi
FOUR! KKR has been unleashed. It doesn't matter who is the batsmen, they are all gonna just go for it. Milne dugs it in short but Tripathi was sort of expecting it and he moves towards the off side and flicks it over short fine leg for a boundary.
Krunal Pandya starts well
That's a good over from Krunal Pandya. The first over without a boundary in the KKR run chase so far Only 3 runs from it. This is an important period of lay, we all saw what the KKR spinners did for them, can the MI spinners do the same? If they can, we are in for a fascinating contest.
KKR vs MI live score: 4 overs bowled
Some sanity back in the game it seems. But still KKR manage to get 8 runs from Boult's second over. 8 seems a lot less now as we've seen a couple of 15 run overs right at the top. Now it's all about holding their nerves and batting a bit sensibly for KKR but don't think Iyer understands any of it. KKR 48/1 after 4 overs.
Bumrah strikes
OUT! BOWLED! Bumrah puts an end to the carnage. Shubman Gill departs for 13. Just the genius of Bumrah It was a cutter and it just found a way to get the inside edge of Gill's bat and hit the stumps. MI needed this. KKR 40/1 after 3 overs.
Smashed by Iyer
FOUR! Even Bumrah is not spared. Full, in search of a yorker, doesn't get it right and is hammered straight down the ground. This is unreal stuff from the left-hander.
Boundaries flowing
FOUR again! Full and wide from Milne, Iyer went at it with hard hands, got the outside edge and it races away. The third man was inside the circle. 15 runs off the over again. KKR 30/0 after 2 overs.
Venkatesh Iyer, remember the name
SIX! Just a fraction shot from Milne and Venkatesh Iyer very quick to get on to the backfoot. But boy did he get a good connection to that one. It went flat and over the ropes. This is some start by KKR.
SIX! Second maximum of the over
This time, it's Iyer, who takes Boult on. ‘International bowler? What’s that?' is what Iyer must be saying. Short ball from Gill but Iyer hooks it thunderously over the ropes. Expensive over first up by MI; great start for KKR.
Boult to Gill: SIX
Shot! Oh, that is an absolute cracker. Boult tries to swing the ball into the right hander but Gill gets his front foot out and whips the ball magnificently for the first six of KKR innings. What timing. Incredible.
MI vs KKR, Live: Gill, Iyer to start KKR's chase
Against RCB, KKR's newest opening pair of Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer got off to a brisk start in chase of a modest target of 93. However, against Bumrah, Boult and Milne, Gill and Iyer will be tested. Alright then. Chase of 156 runs… here it begins.
What a last over by Ferguson
FOUR! Saurabh Tiwary hits a four off the last ball but it has been a fantastic over from Ferguson. Two wickets (one run out) and only 6 runs from it. KKR would be mighty pleased to restrict Mumbai Indians to 155 for 6 after winning the toss.
Krunal Pandya goes
OUT! Two-in-two for KKR. Ferguson gets Krunal Pandya. No power on that shot. It was back of a length delivery and Pandya gave it his all but couldn't get the timing. Wickets are tumbling at the end for MI, they are 149/6 with only 3 balls to go
