Women's WC: Jhulan Goswami equals world record feat during match against NZ; only 1 wicket away from historic landmark

Jhulan ended with figures of 1/41 in 9 overs as New Zealand ended their innings on 260/9.

At 39, Jhulan Goswami continues to reach new heights in international cricket. On Thursday, when she took the wicket of New Zealand's wicketkeeper-batter Katey Martin, she reached a massive feat at the women's World Cups. The Indian right-arm pacer is now the joint-highest wicket-taker in the history of the tournament, leveling with Australia's Lynn Fullston at 39 wickets.

Earlier, all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar starred with the ball, claiming four wickets to help India restrict hosts New Zealand to 260 for 9 in the side's second game of the tournament in Hamilton.

Vastrakar bowled a brilliant spell giving away 34 runs in her 10-over quota while snaring four wickets, including the important scalps of skipper Sophie Devine (35) and Amy Satterthwaite (75). She was unlucky to miss out on a hat-trick in the 47th over.

Spinners Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2/46) and Deepti Sharma (1/52) claimed three wickets between them.

For New Zealand, Satterthwaite (75 off 84) and Amelia Kerr (50 off 64) scored half-centuries, while Katey Martin pitched in with a valuable 41 to power the hosts to a 250 plus score. India had earlier won the toss and opted to field in the game.

India made a winning start to the tournament, cruising to a 107-run victory over Pakistan in their opening game on Sunday. Opener Smriti Mandhana and Vastrakar slammed half-centuries to take India's score to 244/7, before the side bowled Pakistan out on 137.
