Hastings will step in for fellow seam bowler Josh Hazlewood, who has been given a break for the remainder of the home international season.

“Josh has played all six Tests this summer and has had a high workload,” team coach Darren Lehmann said.

“On that basis, the decision has been made to give him a break to allow him to recharge both physically and mentally ahead of the (February) tour of New Zealand.

The Australia squad for the final two matches of the India ODI series will be announced after Sunday’s third ODI at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, CA said.

Australia are currently leading the series 2-0 after a well-earned seven-wicket victory with six balls to spare at Brisbane on Friday.
