Young off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham, who considers Harbhajan Singh his role model, dodged the India Green batsmen with his looping deliveries and claimed his third five-wicket haul in domestic cricket on the second day of the Duleep Trophy match here on Friday.
“It’s a perfect surface for a spinner and I made full use of the turn and bounce that the wicket offered to dictate terms to rival batsmen,” Gowtham told HT soon after his side India Red managed a vital 166-run first innings lead.
“Every spinner loves to bowl on this kind of surface. Dust was coming off the wicket which was dry,” he said.
The Bengaluru cricketer claimed his experience of playing with the pink ball in the Karnataka Premier League came in handy.
Gowtham, who was quite successful bowler for Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy last season, said: “My fitness has improved a lot. I focused on enhancing my mental strength.”
“It’s true that I wanted to be like Harbhajan Singh initially, but I decided to change my style. Bhajji Pra Ji still my role model and I learnt a lot from him in the IPL with Mumbai Indians. But I always felt I should establish myself with a different style.”
