16:44 hrs IST: Kohli retains the strike for the next over as he hits Rabada to deep mid wicket. Can he find the boundary with South Africa having spread the field so much?
16:39 hrs IST: It is only a matter of time now. Kohli will occupy the strike for most of the over and not expose Bumrah.
16:35 hrs IST: WICKET! The bouncer barrage works. Short ball from round the wicket and on the ribs of Ishant, the batsman fends and pops a catch to short leg. Can Kohli give India the lead? Ishant Sharma c Markram b Morkel 3 (20).

16:14 hrs IST: Ishant shows solid defence as the first over after lunch is negotiated safely. India are slowly chipping away at the target.
16:08 hrs IST: Welcome back for the second session. Can India overtake South Africa’s target? Or will the Proteas take two quick wickets? Kohli holds the key now.
15:30 hrs IST: Lunch on day 3. Virat Kohli stands tall after South Africa take two wickets with the new ball. 14:49 hrs IST: India have crossed 250 and are slowly chipping away at the deficit. Kohli has taken his batting to a different notch altogether. Ashwin is giving him great support. Kohli has now gone past his highest score in South Africa.

14:35 hrs IST: India trail by exactly 100 and the new ball is due in eight overs. This game is very evenly poised.
14:29 hrs IST: Edged and South Africa are celebrating. Ashwin poked at a shortish ball outside off and it flies low to AB de Villiers at gully, he scoops it up but is not so sure, third umpire has a look and replays show the ball just bounced in front. It was AB who suggested that the third umpire has a look.
14:22 hrs IST: Ashwin is striking at over 100. This is the last recognised batting pair for India and it is vital that they get closer to South Africa’s score.
14:16 hrs IST: Ashwin is playing some glorious shots. Hat-trick of boundaries off Rabada. One is a wonderful cover drive to sweeper cover, the second is a drive on the up through extra cover and the other is a square drive ala Virender Sehwag to deep point.
14:13 hrs IST: Ashwin rides the bounce and steers a short ball as it flies over gully for a boundary to third man. It looked like he tried to steer it but it flew off the outside edge.
14:08 hrs IST: Edged but safe! Short ball outside off, Ashwin pokes at it and the edge flies over gully for a boundary to third man. This will be a test for both Ashwin and Kohli.
14:06 hrs IST: OUCH! Rabada has hit Ashwin on the left hand with a sharp bouncer. He is getting some treatment. Gets some tape on his little and index finger.
14:04 hrs IST: WICKET! Terrible way to go. Centurion Test and run-outs saga continues for both teams. Pandya pushed a full ball to mid on and he is sent back half way by Kohli, Philander fires the throw at the striker’s end and scores a direct hit, but Pandya was so casual in getting back that he did not slide his bat. Awful way to go. Kapil Dev would not be proud of this dismissal at all. Hardik Pandya run out (Philander) 15.
13:59 hrs IST: With Kohli having got to his 100, the stage is set now for India to dictate terms to South Africa. On this deck, India will be aiming to setup a big lead.
13:56 hrs IST: There it is! 21st century for Virat Kohli and his second in South Africa. He is absolutely pumped up and he leaps with joy. what an effort! Sensational.
13:54 hrs IST: Not much assistance for Rabada as Kohli moves to 99. He is on the cusp of converting yet another fifty into a hundred.
13:50 hrs IST: Kohli ends the over in style. Overpitched from Ngidi and Kohli punches the drive to the long on fence. Elgar gives chase and just manages to haul it back. Kagiso Rabada replaces Philander from the Hennops River End.
13:46 hrs IST: Superbly done by Kohli as he gets going with two back-to-back boundaries off Ngidi. One is an edge to third man while the other is a free-flowing drive to deep extra cover. The next ball, he again gets an edge but it is short of Amla at widish slip.
13:44 hrs IST: Although Ngidi and Philander are trying to be keep it tight, one is slightly surprised that Kagiso Rabada is not coming on to bowl. With the old ball, he is excellent with reverse swing.
13:42 hrs IST: So far, the pitch is proving to be sluggish. It needs technique and patience on this deck. So far, Pandya has hogged the strike while Kohli is patiently waiting for the bad ball.
13:37 hrs IST: Hardik Pandya is employing a different strategy to Lungi Ngidi as he walks forward and shuffles a bit to the off side to take the ball on the bounce. This deck lacks the springboard bounce of Cape Town and thus Pandya is trying to throw the debutant off-line.
13:35 hrs IST: Decent start for India in the first over but this deck is slow, so much unlike the previous Centurion tracks.
13:31 hrs IST: Vernon Philander opens the bowling. Quinton de Kock is standing up to the stumps. Bad start for South Africa as he bowls a full delivery down the leg side for four byes to fine leg. South Africa have to be accurate today.
13:28 hrs IST: Right, we are all set to start. Day 3 is often considered the moment the Test changes. A crucial one hour, in the context of the series, is coming up now.
13:21 hrs IST: On this pitch, a lead of anywhere between 50-100 will be a clincher. For India to be in that situation, they need Kohli to fire along with Pandya and to some extent, Ashwin. For South Africa to achieve this, they must strike early today and they will hope to deny Kohli his 21st century.
13:10 hrs IST: If Virat Kohli scores a ton today, then he will become only the second Indian and third Asian batsman to score a ton in Centurion. Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lanka’s Hashan Tillakaratne were the others to achieve this feat.
13:00 hrs IST: Here’s what Ishant Sharma had to say about India’s ‘sloppy’ slip fielding. Fair to say, they haven’t been up to the mark. A lot of work needs to be done.
12:50 PM IST: It promises to be an exciting day. The Kohli-Pandya partnership could well be a ‘series-defining’ one. Most importantly, India’s first target would be to get closer to South Africa’s first innings total of 335.
12:15 PM IST: Ishant Sharma, who took three for 46 in the first innings is fairly confident that Kohli and Hardik Pandya will be able to deal with South Africa’s pace attack. Pandya (11 not out) was giving Kohli company at the crease. The duo added 19 runs for the unbeaten sixth wicket.
11:42 AM IST: Virat Kohli will have to manage his stroke making on a rather slow and low Centurion wicket. On a pitch that has behaved more Indian than South African, only Murali Vijay provided some support to Kohli. Kohli strode in with India under pressure at 28-2 after losing two wickets in two balls. He took the lead in a 79-run partnership with Vijay (46), making 51 of those 79 runs.
India captain Virat Kohli held firm with an unbeaten 85 to prevent South Africa from fully seizing control on day two of the second Test in Centurion. Kohli looks good to score a well-deserved 21st Test hundred.
South Africa will be looking for consecutive Test victories against India for the first time since 2006-07, where they bounced back from a 1st Test loss to win a three-game series. For the second consecutive calendar year, South Africa will be looking to win their opening two Tests of the year after doing so only once in the eight years prior.
India will be aiming to avoid back-to-back Test losses for the first time since 2014, they’ll aim to avoid replicating their only previous performance at SuperSport Park - an innings defeat to South Africa in December 2010.
