Netherlands Women vs Sri Lanka Women Commentary

5:52 PM IST Calm heads prevail - With Chamari Athapaththu resting, a lot was always going to rest on the shoulders of Sri Lanka's experienced batters, and they duly stepped up. There was a bit of a scare early on as the Dutch started brightly with the ball and asked a few questions, but the likes of Hasini Perera, Hansima Karunaratne and Harshitha Samarawickrama kept their composure. It was the partnership between Hansima and Harshitha that really sealed the deal for them.
5:52 PM IST Not quite enough - After the Dutch opted to bat first, Heather Siegers led the charge with a bright start, but once the field spread, they struggled to maintain that momentum. Sterre Kalis was a bit slow to start, and even though she managed to shift gears later on, the acceleration proved short-lived. Even the finish lacked the late flourish the Dutch would have hoped for, leaving them with a total that felt a little below par, given the platform they had built in the Powerplay.
5:52 PM IST The captain of Netherlands Women - Babette de Leede, when asked about the update on the injury to Isabel Van Der Woning, replies that she does not know at the moment. Feels that they were 20 runs short. Looking at the bigger picture, Babette is pleased with the preparation leading into the World Cup and says the team will continue to take things one game at a time. Shares that the focus now shifts to their opening fixture on Sunday against Bangladesh. Points out that the Dutch beat Bangladesh last week and believes they can do so again. When asked, would that be an upset, she smiles and says that registering the Netherlands' first-ever World Cup win would be a special achievement.
5:50 PM IST The stand-in skipper of Sri Lanka Women - Harshitha Samarawickrama says that they have played the last 2 matches well and they will be looking to play with the same blueprint. Mentions that they gave game time to a few players, and the way they performed is a good sign for the squad. She praises Hansima Karunaratne for taking the team over the line.
5:47 PM IST Time to hear from the two captains...
5:40 PM IST Sri Lanka get the job done - It was a tricky chase, but Sri Lanka had enough quality in their ranks to get the job done. To get over the line in a chase like this without Chamari Athapaththu will give them plenty of confidence heading into the tournament. The Netherlands will take heart from the fight they showed with the ball. They showed enough glimpses of their potential over the last couple of outings and will hope to carry those positives into the main event.
