'MS Dhoni doesn't deviate from his game plan': Harbhajan Singh shares winning mantra of CSK captain amid IPL 2023
Harbhajan Singh spoke at length about the winning mantra of CSK captain MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were hoping to extend their winning run when the four-time champions locked horns with 2008 winners Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match No.37 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Thursday. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, former champions CSK have emerged as strong title contenders after a forgetful season in 2022.
Dhoni's Yellow Brigade has registered five wins in their first seven matches this season. Table-toppers Chennai Super Kings are level on points with defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2023 standings. Speaking ahead of CSK's away game against RR in the 16th season of the cash-rich league, legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh shared the winning mantra of the Chennai captain.
"The winning mantra of MS Dhoni is that he backs the player at his best and favoured batting position. Dhoni backs the players to the hilt and that is the reason why CSK is a champion team. He doesn't deviate from his game plan frequently or after every match. The players need to have that belief and faith in the management and captain. Only then they perform and MS and CSK team management understands it," Harbhajan told Star Sports.
One of the greatest captains in the history of the game, Dhoni became the first player to lead a single franchise in 200 IPL matches earlier this season. Dhoni has played 218 matches as captain in the world's richest T20 league. With a win percentage of 58.71, Dhoni has won 128 matches as captain in the IPL. The 41-year-old has suffered 128 defeats in the elite T20 league.
The former Indian skipper has guided CSK to four IPL crowns in his illustrious career. Earlier, Dhoni became the seventh cricketer to complete 5,000 runs in the IPL. Only Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Warner, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and AB de Villiers have scored 5,000 runs in the world's richest T20 league.
