Ben Mayes

Ben Mayes is an exciting young English right-handed batter who has quickly emerged as one of the brightest prospects in Hampshire's system. Born in Southampton on November 21, 2007, Mayes is a versatile cricketer who can also keep wicket and bowl right-arm medium pace. Having progressed through Hampshire's pathway, he has already made an impression at county and youth international level with his aggressive strokeplay and ability to perform under pressure.

Mayes made his youth international debut for England Under-19s in 2024 and continued to make rapid progress in 2025, touring South Africa and earning Player of the Match honours in the first Youth ODI. He also struck two half-centuries against India Under-19s later that year, further strengthening his reputation as a promising young batter.

His senior breakthrough came in the 2025 One-Day Cup, when Mayes made his professional debut for Hampshire against Glamorgan. He marked the occasion with 74 from 55 balls before following it with an unbeaten 62 against Derbyshire. He also played an important role in Hampshire's run to the final, including an 89-run partnership with Liam Dawson in the semi-final against Yorkshire. His performances earned him a professional contract with Hampshire until the end of the 2027 season.

Mayes has also gained exposure to franchise cricket, featuring among the players associated with Trent Rockets in The Hundred. His rise continued when he was selected for England's squad at the 2026 Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup, where he produced a stunning 191 from 117 balls against Scotland. The innings set a new England record for the highest individual score in Youth ODIs and underlined his exceptional potential.

Still very young, Mayes remains at the beginning of his professional career, but his rapid rise through Hampshire's pathway, impressive performances for England Under-19s and breakthrough 2025 One-Day Cup campaign have already established him as a player to watch.
