Rohit Sharma couldn't have asked for a better start to his captaincy career as he maintained his unbeaten record on home soil, across formats, with a sensational 2-0 series whitewash against Sri Lanka following a 238-run win in the Bengaluru pink-ball Test. And with the unbeaten run, Rohit-led Team India scripted a spectacular Asian record, but fell short of the world record owing to the team's result in the Test series against New Zealand.

India's home season began with New Zealand's visit to the nation in November after the forgettable T20 World Cup 2021 campaign. India have since played three T20I series at home - against New Zealand (3-0), West Indies (3-0) and Sri Lanka (3-0); two Test series - against New Zealand (1-0) and Sri Lanka (2-0) and one ODI contest - against Wes Indies (3-0).

India lost none during their 15-match home season hence registering a win percentage of 93.7. Among Asian teams, it is the highest win percentage ever recorded by a side (minimum 10 matches). The next best is by the Indian side of 2008/9 season that had won eight of their 11 games at home while three ended in a draw hence registering a win percentage of 72.7.

However, the missed the world record of a win percentage of 100 as the Kanpur Test against New Zealand had ended in a draw. The only team ever to record a clean winning percentage in a home season was the Australian side of the 2000/1 season. They had won all 15 of their matches on home soil.

In terms of number of wins, 15 victories recorded by the Rohit-led Indian side is the joint second-most by a side. The Australian side of the 2009/10 season had won 17 of their 19 games at home, with one draw and one no-result.

"It's been a good run, enjoyed it personally and as a team, there were so many things we wanted to achieve and I think we did," said Rohit on Monday after winning his first Test series as full-time captain.
