Worcestershire’s Ross Whiteley hit six sixes in an over on Sunday to join a select group who’ve performed the feat in senior cricket.
Whiteley struck Yorkshire left-arm spinner Karl Carver for six sixes during the 16th over of Worcestershire’s innings in an English Twenty20 match at Headingley.
But Worcestershire lost by 37 runs after Yorkshire’s David Willey made a career-best 118.
West Indies great Garry Sobers was the first batsman to hit six sixes in an over in first-class cricket when, playing for Nottinghamshire, he performed the feat against Glamorgan’s Malcolm Nash in a County Championship match at Swansea in 1968.
Only three other cricketers have hit six sixes in an over after Sobers’ feat. Ravi Shastri was the other batsman to have achieved this feat when he hit six sixes in one over of Tilak Raj in a Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Baroda in 1985.
Yuvraj Singh was the first to achieve it in a Twenty20 international when he hammered Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over in the 2007 World T20 against England in Durban. South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs also achieved the feat of hitting six sixes in an over when he destroyed Dan van Bunge in the 2007 World Cup clash between South Africa and Netherlands.
