Cricket great Sachin Tendulkar and former India cricketer Vinod Kambli seem to have restored their once close friendship, with the duo recently reuniting for Kambli’s birthday.
Vinod Kambli, who represented India in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs, turned 46 on Thursday and his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to wish him on the occasion.
“Tum jiyo hazaaron saal aur saal ke din ho hazaar. Wishing you a very happy birthday, @vinodkambli349,” Tendulkar wrote.
Later, Kambli posted a video in which he was seen celebrating his birthday with Tendulkar.
The former Mumbai southpaw then went on to post another picture with Tendulkar on his Twitter timeline and dubbed it ‘the best moment of 2018’.
Good morning dearest friends. The best moment of 2018 will always cherish it😗😙😚😘🤗 pic.twitter.com/ex4vjUgvfF— VINOD KAMBLI (@vinodkambli349) January 19, 2018
Kambli and Sachin played cricket together during their childhood and teenage years. Both came to the limelight when they put on a record 664-run partnership during a school match in 1988. International calls came soon for the duo.
While Tendulkar went on to become one of the all-time greatest batsmen, Kambli was soon dropped from the team due to his inconsistent performances. The relationship between the two turned sour after Kambli criticised Tendulkar on a TV show eight years ago. Tendulkar and Kambli had reportedly stopped talking to each other since then.
Kambli was not invited to attend Tendulkar’s farewell Test in 2013. The ‘little master’ also didn’t mention his childhood friend’s name in his autobiography ‘Playing It My Way’. All these differences seem to have been set aside now.
