Hussey was Australia's top batsman in the recent Ashes series and selected for the tournament in the subcontinent despite rupturing his hamstring in a one-dayer against England.
On Tuesday, however, Cricket Australia decided they were not prepared to take a chance on him recovering called in Callum Ferguson as his replacement.
"I'm really disappointed and a bit shocked by the news," the 35-year-old told Fox Sports.
Ponting clueless too Ricky Ponting on Wednesday expressed his disbelief at Hussey being dropped from the team.
"He is a massive loss to our group," he said adding that the selectors should have given him more time.
