Zimbabwe to use DRS in second Test against Sri Lanka

Zimbabwe, who suffered from some dodgy umpiring decision in the first Test against Sri Lanka, will use the Decision Review System in the second Test.

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) on Saturday announced its decision to use the controversial Decision Review System (DRS) for the first time in the country during the second Test against Sri Lanka.

Zimbabwe have never objected to the use of the DRS on principle, but the cost of hiring the technology has previously made it prohibitive, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo.

Some last-minute additions to the technology propelled ZC to use the DRS after the African minnows suffered the brunt of umpiring flaws in their previous assignments, including the 225-run defeat in the first Test against the islanders.

“I think (the errors) have been well documented. I think the DRS is good and it’s fair for everyone because it can negate the element of human error. Obviously anyone can make a mistake, but the less of those that have an influence on the game, the better,” Zimbabwe coach Heath Streak said.

After the announcement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) have provided ZC with a third umpire and slow-motion cameras were also flown in from South Africa for the second Test, starting at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday.
