Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat on Saturday assured Congress women leaders that they would be given due representation while delegating responsibilities of corporations and other government agencies’ headships to the party workers.
The CM asked party workers to hold a door-to-door public campaign to highlight the good work done by the central government for women in the country.
Addressing a gathering of party women workers to celebrate International Women’s Day at the Congress headquarters, Rawat said that persistent demands by the state cabinet ministers and the party’s women workers to delegate governing powers to the latter compelled him to upgrade them as heads of corporations, PSUs, autonomous bodies and other government agencies.
“I have been persistently asked by my cabinet colleagues and party workers to accommodate women Congress leaders in governance. I cannot deny the request. When my government begins appointing heads of state corporations and other government agencies, women Congress workers will be given their dues as deputy heads in power sharing,” said Harish Rawat while addressing the function.
Stressing upon his government’s concern for the safety and security of women in the state, the chief minister said that most of the crimes against the downtrodden section of women take place for the want of financial security. “We need to strengthen them more economically,” he added.
“The central government has taken strong measures like doubling honorarium of Anganwari workers and providing work to them under MGNREGA. However, women need to carve out more Mahila Mangal Dal as the state government has decided to implement work worth Rs 2 lakh through them,” Rawat said.
