Brace for more rain from Monday, wettest June in 10 years

Experts in the National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) had on Friday claimed that even though the monsoon was running behind schedule, it would gather strength from Sunday and advance further and hit Delhi by June 30.

Rain and thundershowers triggered by easterly winds — a prelude to the approaching monsoon — are likely to hit the city from Monday night.

Waterlogging after a short spell of rain in New Delhi

If predictions of the regional weather forecasting department hold true, then Delhi is likely to receive showers almost every day next week till monsoon hits the city.

“The moisture laden easterly winds would trigger rainfall almost every day next week from Monday night,” said a senior met department official.

“A cyclonic circulation is brewing over the Bay of Bengal. Moisture laden winds would gush in from the sea and these would provide the monsoon the much needed impetus to advance further,” said a senior official of the NWFC. Met officials claimed that with more rain in the pipeline, this could turn out to be the wettest June in the last one decade.
