Delhi boys buck the trend, fare better than girls in CBSE 12th board exams

This year, boys performed better than girls, probably for the first time. The pass percentage of boys has increased this year to 91.03% from last year’s 82.51%.

Girls outshining boys is a common trend in most board and competitive examinations across the country but Delhi has managed to buck the trend this year.

In Delhi region, boys have scored a little over 5% than girls in the CBSE examination. Though according to all-India figures, girls have performed better than boys. (PTI)

When the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared Class 12 results on Sunday, it was found that boys performed better than girls probably for the first time, officials said.

The pass percentage of boys in Delhi region is 91.03% up from the 82.51% scored last year. Compared to this, girls who usually perform better than boys and scored 91.71% are down to 85.67% this year.

In Delhi region, boys have scored a little over 5% than girls in the CBSE examination. Though according to all-India figures, girls have performed better than boys.

According to CBSE, a total of 87.5% girls passed the examination compared with 78% boys across the country. A total of 10,76,761 students registered for the Class 12 examinations but only 10,20,762 appeared at 3,504 centres between March 9 and April 29.

Raksha from Amity International School in Noida secured 99.6% marks.

The pass percentage for the 12th board exams in Delhi this year, 88.37%, is higher than the national pass percentage of 82%. Delhi seems to have improved on its performance of last year when the past percentage for the Capital was 87.01%. “We are hearing this for the first time so really difficult to comment on what could be the possible reason,” said a school principal of a Delhi school.

Among the toppers this year, three out of the four students who have attained the three best scores in the CBSE 12 boards this year, are girls. Raksha Gopal, a 17-year-old resident of Noida, has scored 99.6%. She scored a perfect hundred in English, Political Science and Economics, but lost a point each in History and Psychology.
