Delhi Metro pulls down political video

The video had come to the notice of the East district’s media and monitoring committee (MCMC) after which the notice was issued.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Friday said it has removed video clips featuring political leaders being shown on its Pink Line, after the state election office found the video to be in violation of the model code of conduct (MCC).

Returning officer (RO) of East Delhi parliamentary constituency K Mahesh had issued a show cause notice to the DMRC Tuesday for playing the video on its Pink Line (Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar) showing various events related to the Metro’s inauguration featuring “dignitaries from three political parties including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and former chief minister Sheila Diskhit, who are contesting the general elections.”

In its response to the notice, the Delhi Metro said, “In view of being pointed out as a violation of the MCC, the DMRC has pulled off all such video clips with immediate effect and is also auditing its premises (stations/trains) to ensure that no information is displayed or run on Metro premises that violate the spirit of the poll code.”

“I welcome the compliance with the poll code shown by the DMRC and urge all individuals and organisations to follow suit,” Mahesh said.
