12-year-old alleges rape in Mohan Garden, neighbour apprehended

A 12-year-old girl on Saturday alleged that she was raped by her 17-year-old neighbour in west Delhi’s Mohan Garden area.

Sources said that the girl alleged raped on Wednesday, but she informed her parents on Saturday. The parents approached the police and a case was registered.

According to the girl’s statement — the youth, who is known to her — forcibly dragged her to an isolated spot in the area and raped her.

The neighbours, however, told the police that they had often spotted the boy and the minor together and were shocked at the incident. The girl alleged that the youth threatened her of dire consequences asking her not to approach the police or tell her parents. She, however, narrated the ordeal to her parents on Saturday.

Soon after the complaint, the youth was apprehended from his residence. A case under relevant IPC sections and that of the POCSO Act has been registered.
